A new luxury lip product is on the market – the “Tatouage Cotoure Liquid Matte Lip Stain” from Yves Saint Laurent. When I think of high-end lipsticks, my mind automatically goes to YSL. Since I started getting into makeup, I always saw people talk about how YSL was the first luxury lipstick that they bought. Typically, their lipsticks, more specifically the “Rouge Volupte Shine,” sell for $36.00 USD. That’s expensive for one tube of lipstick! I have yet to buy a lipstick like this because I feel like I can find products just as good at the drugstore. Nonetheless, this product is still in my wish list.
As I was browsing Sephora online, I stumbled across this new lip product from YSL. The “Tatouage Cotoure Liquid Matte Lip Stain” currently has five reviews and a five-star rating. Pretty good for a brand new product! The reviews say that this formula is hydrating, lightweight, long-lasting, and doesn’t fade off the lips weird. Let’s take a closer look into the product…
Since YSL is a luxury brand, I would expect the packaging of this product to be, and feel, luxurious as well… and my expectations are met! The packaging looks well made and heavy (which is a good indicator of quality when it comes to products, usually). I am also in love with the frosted glass look that displays the color.
The packaging alone makes me really want to purchase this product! It would be so cool and fun to display this product on my makeup vanity.
Now, can we talk about this applicator wand?! This was one of the first things that I noticed when I began looking into this product. It looks extremely flat and is not your typical doe-foot sponge applicator that most liquid lips/stains have. Additionally, the wand looks like it won’t pick up as much product as a typical wand would resulting in you having to dip back into the tube several times to get the coverage you need.
The wand was designed to mimic a liner-like applicator so that you can fill in your lips with the upmost precision.
On the Sephora website, this product is marketed as: “A lightweight lip stain with a revolutionary formula for ultra-matte, high impact color and a lightweight, naked-lip feel.” Usually, a lip stain and a ultra-matte finish would suck all of the moisture out of your lips. But one review states that this formula is not drying at all. Another also states that this lasted through a whole day of eating and drinking.
The product also claims to dry instantly, never fades, never feathers or spills over the lip line, and will last up to eight hours on the lips.
The Color Selection:
There are 18 shades in this lip stain range, with only one shade currently unavailable. There are many pink/red undertone colors which many people like. Additionally, this whole range of lip stains are of the neutral variety; there are no crazy colors. Knowing a brand like YSL, I wouldn’t expect them to come out with all the colors of the rainbow. I like the simplicity of the color choices and that there is a shade that will suit every skin tone.
After looking closer at this product, reading the reviews and claims, and seeing the color selection, I do think that I am going to go out and purchase this product. It will be my first luxury brand splurge! Now, not considering the brand name, $36.00 USD is extremely expensive for a lip stain. With the brand name, this price makes sense and is considered “average” for more luxury brands.
What do you think of this product? Would you be willing to spend this much on a lip product? Let me know!
